I have been away…far away…from my blog for a long time. I was surprised at how long its been since I’ve posted! Over a year! But things have changed and so has my direction. I will be finished college in twelve more weeks, with a Bachelor’s degree in environmental sustainability issues. I have tons of information gathered from businesses that I hope to send out letters of interest to – hoping for a job in return! My herbal studies have been put on the back burner right now. First, because of school – I just haven’t had the time to do both; second, because I am moving – yup, moving. My mom and I are getting a house together to raise my nephew, Gavin. We got custody of him in April, but he’s been with us since December 2012. But in the new house I have my very own workroom/office. I’ll be able to organize, study, create, and get back to what I love. Meanwhile, hopefully I will be doing a job that I love in a field that is my second love! Here’s to wishing!

I have been working on my marketing paper today and every time I come across a link that could possibly help me in my business in the future…well, I save it or rather I bookmark it. I found some great new sites today that I need to review when I get time… most of them need to be reviewed WHEN I get time…not sure when that will be though! I know I will need a business plan and a marketing plan, but I think now I need to create a “Getting Started on Starting a Business” plan. I need to take all that I have learned so far in school, create a binder, insert information from each class that pertains to each subject, then start creating a step plan of what I need to know and a schedule of when I need to know it. I also need to include my education in on this plan. Maybe even research on suppliers, potential suppliers for various items besides herbs, oils, etc. and potential suppliers for the “cottage industry” side of the business (if I decide to continue that idea). I started a list of “tabs” for a binder, but I don’t know where it has disappeared to. As soon as I find it, I will add it to this blog so that I don’t lose it again.
I forgot there were some things that I wanted to post so that I don’t forget them…. I signed up to be an independent consultant for doTERRA if anyone is interested in purchasing their products…very good essential oils, beauty and spa products, supplements, etc. I have been using the facial products for about two weeks now and I like what it is doing…still working on the essential oil stuff so will have to get back about how well it is doing. If interested check out my site – http://www.mydoterra.com/thymeinmygarden/
I am also going to create another page on this blog for writing articles, posting article links, and such. I am collecting so much information – especially about essential oils and cats – that I want to write an article myself with information I am reading about, what I am learning, and what I can find. If anyone is interested in writing an article for this page, I will also post a link for you to submit your article for review before posting. Please include all references, preferably in APA format. Happy writing!
Its been a really long time since I posted… I had a few setbacks … and with school becoming overwhelming, I just haven’t had time to post here. But I wanted to post an update so that I can look back and see where I was both mentally and physically in relation to my goals. I have been off on so many tangents that sometimes I forget where I am heading. Ignore all of the stuff from before…I am still working on my degree. Now its a Bachelors of Science in Business with a Concentration in Small Business and Entrepreneurship. I have a little less than a year and a half to go. I have a goal in mind of five years until I am ready to open my own business, but that might be a bit rosy! Anyway, I just enrolled in doTERRA, a company that offers certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. I can sell the stuff is anyone is interested. My website is http://www.mydoterra.com/thymeinmygarden I haven’t set much up on there yet, but I plan to. School just takes so much of my time!
I am considering American College of Healthcare Sciences for a certification, and maybe later a degree, in herbology later on down the road, but right now I am considering signing up for an online course through The Village Herbalist. She has an 18-lesson program that should last at least a year at the most. It’s reasonably priced considering. ACHS is very expensive and is only for later down the road.
I am also considering taking a class in pet aromatherapy at Essential Animals. She has a great course for online classes at http://www.essentialanimals.com/courses-workshops/apa-level-1-distance It is about the same price as the above mentioned herbal classes.
I know there are other classes that I have to take, but between money and time…with already being in school, I guess the only thing I can do for now is to collect as many articles as possible and read, read, read, read….. you get the picture!
Okay, what else… Oh, I started a binder for my Goals in Business. I have dividers for: Goal Plan, Business Plan, Marketing Plan & Strategy, Financial Plan & Budget, Suppiers, Interior Ideas, Exterior Ideas, Dream/Idea Potentials, and Education Goals…so far. I need to go back over my classes and put down notes, forms, ideas, etc. from those classes that I can use when I am ready to start my business. I put a page protector in each section to hold notes that I make while on the bus, driving, whatever…so I don’t loose them. There is so much information I need to know before this will even have a chance to work. It can be overwhelming at times, but I really, really want to do this. I don’t know if I ever will, but this is where I want to go with the rest of my life… I really do! I know that I will probably have to work in the “real world” for a while longer…I will need to get a “real” job before or right after I graduate so I can pay the tuition bills! They come due 6 months after I graduate…I have considered going for an MBA to postpone the inevitable! LOL
Well, it’s almost bedtime and I have things I have to do before I can get in bed. I have so many thoughts spinning around in my head, and I am hoping blogging with help straighten them out! TTFN!
Things haven’t been as I hoped they would be. I spent the money I wanted to use for the first year of herbal college. Didn’t even realize it until I added it all up. Haven’t had time to even work on researching and reading about herbs. Between work, school, Jenna’s wedding, and getting ready for the feast…. Things have been incredibly hectic and a tad overwhelming. While I know that what I want is my “dream” I still am working as if it will be reality. I would really like to get a job working with the environment or doing research until then, but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards. I keep hoping and talking to God about it. Maybe one day…. As my health gets worse, I wonder if I will even be able to do what I want to do. I think the time has finally come for me to start researching FM and finding out what I can do to lesson the pain and to be more active. I know it’s possible. I have heard of others following that route and actually having a life. I know there are herbal remedies that help with the pain as well as homeopathic ones. I just need to start doing some research… One thing I do love to do!
Between school, work, and house there never seems to be enough time in a day. I have off two weeks…well, down to 1 1/2 weeks…off from work for summer break and am trying to get so much done but I can’t get what I want and I get sidetracked online…and I get to doing schoolwork…. Argh! I am working on my listings in my herbal OneNotebook. I am trying to see what I need and have so that I can make some products this week. I need facial cleansers, toner, moisturizer and some skin treatments so I need to figure out what “recipes” to use and what I need to buy.
Slowly getting the workroom organized but there is just so much junk in here! I don’t know where it all came from and I really think it is reproducing on its own!
Well, back to the typewriter…or computer…. and researching some more stuff!
Its been over a month since I have posted anything. I know last time I posted I said I would try to keep this blog up and post links or information at least a few times a week… well, I haven’t but I will this month. I started my second subject for my bachelor’s degree program and it seems relatively easy. There is a lot of reading to do though… a lot!
I have been gathering information, searching out websites and copying down “recipes” at least a few days a week, though. I will have to add the websites where I am finding most of my information. I like Henrietta’s Herbals and Herbal Index Online. I’ll add those links in a few minutes. I also have a cool link for Classic Texts. Lots of links for herbalism and medical herbalism there but old texts. Cool to read and keep track of!
Bought two new books last month. “The Holistic Herbal Directory” by Penelope Ody, which is a cool directory of herbal remedies for everyday health problems but given from the standpoint of three traditions: Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. Its really fascinating. I don’t have the other one handy to write down the information right now… in my office… but I will get it later and post it. Pretty informative as well.
Well have to head back to work! Oh, I forgot! I am signing up for an herbal course that last sixteen weeks, and will give me a traditional herbal certification when I am done! Its about $200 and it’s 8 lessons in various herbs. It comes with lecture CDs, a lesson book, resource kit that has 14 herb samples either in dried form or in a tincture. It teaches you to make 3 tinctures by yourself and 11 teas. Its through the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism, Inc. so it’s a pretty good program. There are also some other classes they have online. This one is considered beginning to intermediate. Then there is the Fundamentals of Herbal Actions and Formulations (Intermediate), Vitalist Therapeutics and Acute Symptoms (Intermediate), Adverse Effects of Common Herbs (Intermediate), Insulin Resistance: Pathophysiology and Natural Therapeutics (Intermediate/Advanced), and Material Medica Intensive (Advanced). They plan to have a distance learning course “Certificate in Western Herbalism” come out by December 2011 that will be a comprehensive 304-hour certificate course. They estimate it will take about two years to complete. The above mentioned courses are included, plus Fundamentals of Western Materia Medica I, II, and III, and Fundamentals of Vitalist Medicine. The whole course will run about $2,000 . I hope to do that whole program in time, plus the Master Gardener programs well. I want to start sending out resumes soon, possibly within the month to see if I have any chances of a better paying position but I don’t know how that will go. Scotti doesn’t think anyone will be willing to hire me due to my age and lack of experience, but Scotti doesn’t consider the extra help I have from God… We wil just have to see!
I haven’t had time to work on the business plan, but I am learning a lot that I will need to know through my classes. Getting a lot of ideas and a lot of advice for starting my own business…
We will just have to see! TTFN!
